Weight of a Mass

Weight of a Mass

The Weight Of A Mass is a tale about having Faith. The book begins with the announcement of a royal couple to be wed in a cathedral. The wedding was chosen to be held there because the King’s people grew cold hearts. The main characters in this book is an old widow, the baker and the baker’s son. The book is set in the baker’s bakery where there are swarms of people in the fanciest clothes. The old widow then goes to the front of the counter and begs for a piece of stale bread because she had no money. The baker was annoyed at her for she had no money to pay him so he started to taunt her. She said that she would offer a mass for him but he was still not surprised. He just continued to taunt her. Then he challenges her to see how much he had to give her. He wrote the words: One Mass and placed it on the scale. He then cut a piece of bread and placed it opposite the words. In his surprise, the offered up mass, lifted up the bread. Near to the end, the baker realises his great mistake. He knew that baked goods can not balance the offered up mass.

My favourite part of this book is when the baker then realises that he can not balance every single one of his baked goods with an offered up mass. This is my favourite part because not many people with hearts so cold like his.

I recommend this book to ages 7-11 years of age because this is an easy book to read especially because it has no chapters and it isn’t that long but it tells a great moral. I encourage everyone to read this book!
