Chocolate Concerns

Hi there,
I love your chocolate and I crave for it everyday. But I have a concern about your chocolate even though I am still young. The chocolate nibs you use is collected by children. This is a big issue for you and for others. I have researched deeper into chocolate and what’s behind it. I have seen a video and it has shown that your company and some countless others have signed the agreement. I have a big question for your company based on the information from the video. Do you use children to collect the cocoa nibs for your chocolate? This isn’t a question of hate but it is a question of concern. The video has changed my mind about eating chocolate. This is my biggest concern and if you’d like to have a check on the video, the link is below.

Sincerely yours,
Liezl

Thanksgiving

We choose to live grounded
in your love, God of goodness,
And to your proclaim your wisdom,
the path of justice and peace.
We are thankful for your call,
For the Spirit that graces us,
For the social issues that engage us, and
For the communities that embrace us.

You have gifted us
And called us by name.
Even in times of darkness
We are moved toward
The Light of your Word.

We form the word peace,
We sing out the word of justice,
And we become, again and again,
Part of the chorus that echoes
Your music, your hope, your vision.

Thank you Lord for the Holy Spirit that works in our lives daily-working alongside us to learn self-control, love for others, showing peace and joy, being generous, being gentle and kind and to build our faith in loving God  the Father, Jesus the Son and Mother Mary.

O God Source of Life, Creator of Peace,
help Your children, anguished and confused
to understand the futility of hatred and violence
and grant them the ability to stretch across
political, religious and national boundaries
so they may comfort horror and fear
by continuing together
in the search for justice, peace and truth.
With every fiber of our being
we beg You, O God, to help us not to fail nor falter. Amen.

Building a Bridge

Building a Bridge

Problem:
The problem was to construct a strong bridge that can hold 2 Duct tape for 1 minute.

Materials:
  • 10 straws
  • 2 A4 paper
  • 1 Pipe Cleaner
  • 1 cardboard roll
  • 1 meter tape
  • 1 meter string
  • 1 Scissor
  • 1 meter ruler

   Procedure:

1.We measured the cardboard roll.
2.We then cut it and placed it around 1 A4 paper (base).
3.After that, we taped the cardboard rolls onto the A4 paper which is the base of the bridge.

4.
We folded the second A4 paper horizontally at the  ends of the paper to make the rails.
5.Then we connected 2 straws together for the rails. We did this two times.
6.We taped the rails on the both folded ends of the other A4 paper.
7.Then we got a straw and stuck it horizontally in the middle of the rails.
8. We attached a string that came down from the horizontal straws and the rails.
9. After we attached the string, we stuck some straws on the folds of the paper so it can support the span.
10. Then we stuck the paper onto the cardboard rolls.
11. We then tested our bridge by placing the 2 Duct tape on it. We timed it for 1 minute and it survived. It went a little over a minute.

Conclusion:
We conclude that in order for our bridge to be strong and sturdy, it needs a lot of support on the top and on the bottom. When there is pressure on the top, it helps make the bridge stronger.

A country that lies in North America not too far away from the United States. The country where the Rio Grande flows, where beautiful landscapes, dry plains and many snow-capped mountains are seen by many. All these wonderful things belong to one country called Mexico. Mexico is a crowded country with 21.2 million people living in Mexico.

Mexico is one of the biggest countries according to land area. This country has 31 states including the capital which is Mexico City. Mexico City is said to be a very polluted city. The official name of Mexico is the United Mexican States. Mexico is one of the countries that are visited many times by varieties of races. The currency of Mexico is Mexican peso. Some years ago people found stone tools in Mexico which proposes that there might have been people living in Mexico around 23000 years ago!

There is more than one native language in Mexico. Mayan and Spanish are one of the most spoken languages in Mexico. Most Mexicans speak Spanish because Spanish is one of the native languages in Mexico. Mexico is also one of the biggest Spanish-speaking countries in the whole wide world. But thousands of years ago Spanish was not known in Mexico. There were Indian tribes that had their own language and their own ways of doing things. Spanish only was known to the Mexicans when the Spaniards came to Mexico in the 1500s. The Spaniards destroyed many cities and buildings and many Mexicans died of a disease that the Spaniards brought with them. For a long time the Spaniards ruled Mexico until the day Mexico became independent in 1821. The majority of the Mexicans are Roman Catholics but the old Indian rituals and traditions are still remain.

The food that Mexicans eat are usually flavoured, hot and spicy. Many of the meals in Mexico have vegetables. Have you ever eaten a tortilla? Well Mexican dishes are usually served with tortillas. Tortillas are flat bread that is made with cornmeal. Usually tortilla is used as a wrap. Another popular food of Mexico is Tacos. Many people in different parts of the world enjoy having delicious tacos, whether homemade or store-bought.

Some animals that live in Mexico are armadillos, snakes and rabbits. Anteaters, parrots, toucans, spider monkeys and ocelots live in the forests of Mexico.  Many of us know the smallest dog breed right? The Chihuahua. The Chihuahua was named after one of Mexico’s cities. The national symbol of Mexico is the golden Eagle. The golden eagle is on the Coat Of Arms. The Coat Of Arms is very special to the Mexican civilization and it is another national sign of Mexico.

Many tourists go to see the old pyramids and temples which were built a very long time ago in an ancient city called Teotihuacán. A popular place where many tourists go to is Cancun. Cancun is in Yucatan Peninsula. Tourists go there to see the beautiful beaches, city and to learn more about the Mexican history.

Philippines

Pictures taken from: www.flagsofallcountries.com
Have you ever seen the Chocolate Hills, a church made of steel or have you ever been to the sandy beaches that stretch to one end to the other. All these places belong to one country in Asia. This country is the Philippines.

The Philippines is located in the Pacific Ocean in Asia. The capital of the Philippines is Manila and the money or currency that the Philippines use is Pesos. Filipinos speak in English, Filipino and other local languages. Most of the people that live there are Roman Catholics. Their national symbol is a FIlipino eagle. Did you know that the Filipino flag stands for something? The blue side of the flag stands for peace and truth, the red side stands for patriotism, the 3 stars stands for the major islands of the Philippines, the sun stands for unity and freedom and each ray of the sun stands for the 8 islands that started the colony against the Spaniards. The philippines was once governed or belonged by the Spaniards until the year 1898. The Philippines was then given to the United States. But in 1946, the Philippines was free. During the time the Philippines was free, they built a democratic government and a woman named Corazon Aquino became president. The Philippines is a country that is an archipelago of 7,000 islands. Did you know only one third of the Filipinos live in the islands?

There are many attractions in the Philippines from beaches, churches and landscapes. One of the popular attractions in the Philippines are the Chocolate Hills. The chocolate hills are in the middle of  Bohol which is one of the provinces of the Philippines. Why are these mountains called Chocolate Hills? Well, they are called Chocolate hills because the top of the hills are brown, just like chocolate! There are about 1,776 mountains that spread over 50 kilometres of land but they are not sure if there is more mountains. It’s too much to count!

Another tourist attraction in the Philippines is a Roman Catholic church which was built totally with steel. The only things that aren’t steel are the stained glass windows. It even has 2 towers! This church is called San Sebastian Church and it was built 124 years ago (1891) in Manila. It is said that this church was built when the Philippines was still under the rule of the Spaniards. This church was especially made for Saint Sebastian. Mactan is an island that tourists usually stay for a holiday in the hotels. This island is a part of Cebu which is another province of the Philippines.

Peru

A beautiful country with many Amazon Rainforests, beautiful landscapes and coastal plains. This country shares their borders with Ecuador and Bolivia and it belongs to the continent South America. Peru is the country.

Picture taken from: www.flagsofallcountries.com

Peru’s official name is the Republic Of Peru. Lima is the capital of Peru. There is a saint from Lima and her name is St. Rose of Lima. Have you heard of her? Peru is the third biggest country in South America. The currency of Peru is Peruvian nuevo sol. The Incan people or civilization were the people that lived in Peru many centuries back. They lived in the Machu Picchu which is a lost city in Peru.  In Machu Picchu they lived a happy life until the 16th century when the Spaniards arrived and wiped out most of their things. The ruins are still there and you can visit it. There are many animals that live in the rainforests and these animals can not be found anywhere in the world except for Peru. Did you know there are Indian tribes living in those rainforests? These Indian tribes live in a small ‘city’ which is located in the jungle. Most people arrive to this place by boat through the Amazon rivers. In Peru, there is a very patient flower that grows in Peru. The flower is patient because it grows for 100 years before it blooms.

Peru is one of the countries that have  the richest sources of copper, silver and lead. Not many people in Peru are rich. Many of them live in tiny houses that have no electricity or water that flows. These people work very hard even if they don’t have much to eat. Peru has 496,224 square miles of their land. The population of Peru is 27,947,000 and most of them speak Spanish, Quechua and Aymara. These three languages are the native languages of Peru. Most of the people in Peru are Roman Catholics.

Peru has many symbols. Some of the symbols are their flag and the coat of arms. The flag of Peru was created in 1820. Many people say that the flag is red and white because of a man named General San Martin. While the liberation campaign was going on he watched some flamingos with red wings and white breasts after walking up from a siesta. Another symbol of Peru is the coat of arms. The coat of arms is a symbol of Peru because the coat of arms shows all the national things of Peru such as the Vicuña, Cinchona tree, cornucopia filled with coins and the crown above the coat of arms. The coins are in the coat of arms to represent the wealth of Peru, the Vicuña represents the national animal of Peru, the crown represents victory and glory and the Cinchona tree represents the tree that are used to make quinine which is a drug.
