Digital Citizenship Document

What is digital citizenship?

Digital citizenship is a ‘name’ or ‘title’ given to a person that is confident and is capable user of technology, which is also known as ICT. People that use the internet or any technology effectively or responsibly are rightly known as Digital Citizens. Digital citizens participate in educational activities online.

How can you be a good digital citizen?

You can be a good digital citizen by following the rules on how to use digital technology. You have to be safe and always cautious because there could be someone pretending to be someone else. You should always think before you do something. You have to always keep your personal information to yourself and within your family. Lastly, you should stand up for other people who are having trouble on the internet. If you use these steps, then you can be a good digital citizen.

What is Digital Access?

Areyouadigitalcitizen.weebly.com  quotes ‘Digital Access is usually stated or described as a full electronic participation in society’. Everyone has access to digital technology especially technology that are free to use. Digital access allows people to use technology for educational and important causes.

What is Security?

In any group of people, there are individuals  who hack and steal  damage, or disrupt other people. The same is true for the digital community. It is not enough to trust other members in the community for our own safety.

What is Digital Communication?

Communication online is very important because if you don’t talk appropriately, it won’t make other people happy. When you are talking to someone online or maybe on social media, sometimes you might make the wrong turn especially if you are talking to someone you absolutely do not like. Sometimes people are so depressed about what is said to them and sadly give in and commit suicide. Communication is very important.

What is Digital Respect?

Having respect for people online is the same with your communication. Sometimes people think saying mean things to someone is something very funny but it might end up making someone feel depressed and sad. Your respect for people affects you and them. While you satisfy yourself with mean things, you never know what is happening on the other side of the internet. That is why respect is one of the most important things in being a digital citizen. Have respect.

What is Health and Wellness?

Health and wellness is very important because too much screen-time damages your eyes. Science says that there should only be 1-2 hours of screen-time per day. You should get outside, play, exercise, clean and everything that does not include the computer!

What is Digital Literacy?

Digital Literacy is your ability to use, explore, share and make things using different information and resources from different digital devices and technology. It’s your knowledge and your behaviour on digital devices.

The Jesse Tree Week 2

Sunday: The Burning Bush
God answers Moses, “I am who I am” (Yahweh). Other meanings of God's answer can be “I come to be all that exists” and “I cause to be all that happens.” God seems to be saying that God will come in his own time and will not be controlled by Moses. God will be who he will be. He came to save the people because it is his choice. “And he said, ‘I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim before you the name, “The Lord”; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy'”

Monday: Lamb
Screenshot 2015-11-30 at 11.59.26 AM.pngMoses gathers the people. He orders that a lamb be sacrificed and the blood of the lamb be put on the doorframes of the houses. This will be a sign to God to “pass over” the houses of the Hebrews. That night the Hebrews eat roasted lamb and unleavened bread, preparing for the journey. Egyptian houses are filled with mourning, “for there was not a house without someone dead” (Exodus 12:30). Pharaoh, finally convinced that he cannot defeat God, lets the people go.

Tuesday: Tablets of the Torah
Jesse Tree: TorahWhen Moses and Aaron go up on Mount Sinai, God first reminds them of what he has done for them: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery” (Exodus 20:2). He then tells them what they need to do in order to live in relationship with God and one another. We call these instructions the Ten Commandments.

Joshua led the Hebrew people from success to success in conquering the land of Canaan. The biblical writer attributes this to his obedience and faithfulness to God. The Canaanite people were defeated, their cities were destroyed, and the spoils of war were offered to God. Like Moses, Joshua was successful until his death, at the age of 110, the same age of Joseph at his death.

Thursday: Clay Water Pitcher
Jesse Tree: PitcherGideon, a farmer, is threshing his wheat in a winepress so that he can hide it from the Midianites. When God tells him that he will lead the Hebrew people against their enemies, Gideon ridicules the idea. He tells God that God abandoned the people and does not seem prepared to keep his promises. God is not put off; he gives the task to Gideon and promises that he will be with him. Gideon does not think much of God's choice, as his tribe is among the smallest. God, of course, realizes this. God wants to emphasize that when victory comes, it comes from God. The Hebrew people will never win if they depend on themselves.

Friday: Crown
Jesse Tree: CrownSaul is a member of the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest of the tribes. He is described as handsome and tall, a man of substance. His father, a wealthy man, loses a number of donkeys. Saul goes in search of them but cannot find them. Told of a holy man in a nearby town, Saul goes to see him to ask if he can help Saul find the donkeys. Samuel is in the shrine of the town, conducting the sacrifices. When Samuel sees Saul, he realizes that Saul is the man God has told him about in a dream. God told Samuel that Saul is the man who will help free the people from the Philistines.

Saturday: Shepherd's Crook or Harp
HarpDavid was a great poet and a person of deep, yet flawed, spirituality. He is credited with a heartfelt song of faith in God for his continued protection (2 Samuel 22). In this song, David describes God as a rock, fortress, deliverer, shield, horn, stronghold, and refuge. God's actions in David's life are like the mighty forces of nature aiding him: breakers surge and floods overwhelm; the earth sways and shakes, trembles and quakes. David's enemies flee and are destroyed, ground into the dust and trampled. God's commitment to David will not end, though David is unfaithful in many ways. God's covenant love is steadfast and enduring.

Inkheart

I can tell you, It’s a horrible feeling suddenly landing in someone else’s story’

--Dustfinger

The book ‘Inkheart’ is about a man and his daughter. This man was named Mortimer or Mo for short and his daughter was named Meggie. Both characters have a special ability that is rarely given. They can read characters out of books! But no-one is safe, not even Mortimer and Meggie. With the ability to read characters out of books, Mo brings out men named Capricorn, Basta and Dustfinger with no intention. And because Capricorn found himself in a world he never knew before, he was quite delighted so Capricorn and his henchmen, tried to over-rule the world beyond ‘Inkheart’. Will Mo and Meggie be able to put an end to Capricorn and place everything back to what it was before?

My favourite characters in the book are Mo and Dustfinger. They are the 2 characters I like the most because they strive hard to fight evil even though Dustfinger made some slip-ups to save his own life. I like Mo because he is a very kind father to Meggie and he is also one of my favourite characters because of his awesome ability. Dustfinger is a cool character as well because he is a very skilled fire-eater and he is a good friend to Mortimer.

I recommend this book to people ages 10 and up and who love books filled with thrillers, adventure and mystery. I also recommend this book to people who enjoy books that are part of a sequence.

Recycling Glass Bottles

Recycling Glass Bottles

I wonder what happens to empty glass bottles when it is placed in the recycling bin. Does it have a process of which it is reused? What is the recycled glass bottles made into once it has been through the process?

Silica sand is what new glass is mainly made of.  The sand is put in a furnace and is melted because it’s on a very high temperature. New glass bottles cost more than recycled glass bottles. Recycled glass bottles cost less because it uses less natural resources.

What is the start if the recycling process? It all starts when humans bring their empty glass bottles the the bottle bank. The bottle bank then brings the bottles by lorry or truck to the recycling plant. In the ‘plant’, the lids or tops of the bottles are taken off and the glass is brought to a machine that crushes the glass into very small pieces.

After it has been crushed, it is again taken by lorry to a bottle factory. In the factory, the crushed glass is mixed with a small amount of silica sand. The mixture of silica sand and crushed glass is then melted in a furnace but in a lower temperature than the newer glass bottles.

After waiting for some time the mixture is turned into hot liquid and is taken out of the furnace. Later on, the hot liquid is transferred into a machinery that creates bottles out of the liquid. Did you know that recycled glass can be recycled over and over again because it doesn’t lose it’s quality quickly.

Recycling is a very clever thing that most humans do especially because it saves money. Think about it, recycling, reusing, does it save more money for you to spend?

The World Mourns For Paris

Evaluation of my school year

What did I learn?

I learnt about plants and and how plants adapt to the environment around them. Another main focus in our school was Respect because it was the term’s value and charism. Love and Service, Peace and Joy and Justice. I also learnt about chocolate, Matariki, Nelson Mandela, Role Models, Attacks in Paris, Mary Mackillop, Simple Machines, Digital Citizenship. and footprints, social justice, Syrian refugee, reading articles using Dogo news, Kiwi kids news and many more.

Why were you learning it?

I was learning it because it was the main focuses for the school year. I also think that learning about plants remind us that God made all these things in order for us to survive and so that we have the responsibility to take care of the things and surroundings around us. I also learnt respect because we have to respect people no matter what. It also is important to learn respect because that is what God calls us to do in our daily lives. We learn many things because these will help me in the future.

How is that learning going to help me?

This learning is going to help me because it will prepare me for future events. I especially need respect in the future and now. Having respect and learning it early would be a great impact to the world. You never know, you might be the inspiration of someone. Start young, it will always be with you. Learning about plants will be helping me because it will show me how to take care of God’s creations. This will make the world a better and brighter place if you have respect and if you take care of your surroundings, not only plants but people too.  Not only respect but other charisms are important to know too.

What am I pleased about?

I am pleased about all the work that I have completed in the whole school year. I am also pleased that the whole school year has been a very good year. By far, I think it is the best year of school I have ever experienced!

Robotic Pets and Dream Catcher

WALT: proofread and edit text by correcting spelling, punctuation and grammar.

robotic pets my opinion
Robotic pets, like cats and dogs are now availlable. But I think they should be banned. If a robotic pet are bought for a yung child it could teech him or her that pets can be ignored or mistreated  whenever the childs mood changes. What would hapen if one day the child recieve a real pet He or she may treat it the same way.

Some robotic pets are used in nursing homes for eldely people who are unable to take care for a real pet. I understand that this may give them some cumfort, but a robotic pet cant give you no love like a real animal can. I think nursing homes should has volunters who regularly brings in real pets for a few hours at a time insted.

The only positiv thing about robotic pets is that it might save some animals from being treated cruely by their owners. But the cost of robotic pets is still too high for most peoples budjets.
