Why are the events of Gallipoli important today?

Why are the events of Gallipoli important today?

The events at Gallipoli are important today because when World War 1 happened, Australia became a federal commonwealth. The war was a significant event that happened to Australia. Australia thought that going to Gallipoli would give them respect from the other nations. The events are also remembered because they encouraged many people, young and old, male or female. It has been a symbol for Australia.

The ANZAC’s dressed by wearing a hat on their heads, hat badge, ankle boots, puttees on each leg, a collar badge, a belt, a tunic, puggarees, socks that are made out of cotton, woolen singlets and breeches. Their uniform is called Fatigue.

They mostly ate canned food. For example, they ate Bully Beef (in a can), jam, cocoa, bread and Hard Tack. Hard Tack was also known as ANZAC Wafer and ANZAC Tile and it lasted longer than bread.

Negative Ebola Test For NZ Nurse

Negative Ebola Test For NZ Nurse

The main person or group in the article is the nurse that returned back from Sierra Leone. The nurse was originally from Gore. She was one of the members in the New Zealand team. They were concerned about her health when she came back to New Zealand.

rsz_snpa261006411That the nurse that came back after dealing with patients suffering from Ebola, her blood tests came back negative. Meaning that she had no sign of Ebola.

The event took place in New Zealand. This is because the nurse came back from Sierra Leone to New Zealand her blood was tested and she had no sign of Ebola.

The event took place on the 11th of March which was on a Wednesday.

The article describes a member of the NZ team coming back from Sierra Leone after taking care of people with the dreadful disease of Ebola. When she arrived on the 11th of March, she was taken to the Christchurch unit where she was taken after and tested. Her blood was tested to see if she caught the disease. The nurse’s blood was then sent to Melbourne. Melbourne sent it back saying that the tests showed she had no sign of Ebola in her blood.

The event took place in New Zealand. New Zealand is a small country that is surrounded with many seas. New Zealand is most likely an isolated country. This is a country that is the most safest country that anyone could live in because there isn’t much poisonous objects, not many deadly pests and diseases.

This happened on a Wednesday, 11 March 2015. In the future, Ebola might still be a disease that people suffer but if many people are actively helping out today, then the future might just be what many people would want. No Ebola.

It is rare that someone taking care of a patient with Ebola has no sign of Ebola. Whoever wrote the article might wanted to tell people that people can survive while they are dealing with the disease.

My Version of Our Father

Pippi Longstockings

Pippi Longstockings

The book “Pippi Longstockings” is written by Astrid Lindgren. It is about a girl named Pippi. She lives alone as an orphan but she doesn’t mind. She has a pet horse and many peculiar things in her house. One day, she finds out that a family moves into the house right next to hers. She then becomes friends with the 2 children. The 2 children visit Pippi everyday and when Pippi is invited to a very posh party in the 2 children’s house, Pippi tries to look her best. She puts red chalk for lipstick. This book is filled with fun!

My favourite character in this book is Pippi. Although she is the main character, she is funny and she has everything someone would want to see in a character. She is the character that makes this book enjoyable.

I recommend this book to children ages 7 and above. I also recommend this book to children that love books that have characters that have a sense of humor. This book is a great book to read for a variety of ages.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland

This book is about a girl named Alice. The story begins in Alice’s garden. She is sitting on the tree waiting for something fun to happen because her sister is sitting on the grass reading a book that has no conversations or pictures. While Alice sits on the tree filled with boredom, she slowly dozes off to sleep. But when she wakes up, she sees a white rabbit in fancy clothes. With a tidy coat and a golden watch on his paw. She hears him mutter “Oh no! I am late. The Duchess wouldn’t want that!” He then hurries off and goes down a big rabbit hole. Alice follows the white rabbit and to her surprise, she jumps down the rabbit hole too. When she finds herself falling for a very long time she looks at the different things on different shelves. When her fall ends, she lands with a thump. In the middle of the book, Alice finds a way to enter Wonderland. In Wonderland she meets peculiar creatures such as the Mad Hatter that thinks it is always tea time, the Dormouse, the Cheshire Cat and many other things. At the end, Alice gets back to her normal world.

My favourite character in this book is the Mad Hatter. He isn’t there all the time in the book but he is the character that has most of the humor especially because he goes mad. Though he is kind of annoying when he has conversations with Alice. I enjoyed reading this book because he is a very peculiar person because his watch always shows that it is teatime.

I rate this book 9 out of 10. I recommend this book to children ages 7 and above. This book would be great for children that love imagining things that aren’t real. I also recommend this book to children that love classic stories.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator

The Great Glass Elevator is about Charlie Bucket, Grandpa Joe and Mr. Willy Wonka. Since Charlie was the last one standing, Willy Wonka told Charlie to go back home in the Glass Elevator. The book includes Charlie finding strange creatures on his way to go home from the Chocolate Factory.  When Charlie, Grandpa Joe and Mr. Willy Wonka go to Charlie’s house, Charlie’s parents and families are relieved to see them. Though a strange thing happens, the grandparents of Charlie turn into babies. At the end of the book, Charlie is given the ownership of the Chocolate Factory and everything is back to normal.

My favourite part of the book is when Charlie’s grandparents turn into babies. This part is funny especially because as old as they are, they become young again.

I recommend this book to children that love adventure and children that loved reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The ages I recommend this book to is 7 and above.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Image result for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's StoneThis book is about a boy named Harry Potter. He lives in his cousin’s house, the Dursleys. They are nothing like the Potters. They are Muggles. Muggles are people that do not have any wizard or witch blood in them. Harry was brought to the Dursleys by Professor Dumbledore, Hagrid and Professor Mcgonagall. He was just a baby when that happened, going to Dursley’s and almost being killed after his parents. After the attack from Voldemort, he got a lightning scar. When unexpected letters come to the doorstep of the Dursley’s addressed to Harry, Uncle Vernon gets angry. Wherever they went, the letters would know they were there. Then one day, Uncle Vernon finds a hut which he thought no-one would know they are there but he was mistaken. A huge giant knocks on the hut’s door. The giant was Hagrid. When Hagrid goes inside the hut, he gives Harry the letter that Uncle Vernon would not allow him to read. Harry read it and found out the truth. Hagrid told him that his parents were killed not by a car accident but by Voldemort. Harry then goes to Platform 9 ¾ which is the passageway to Hogwarts. In Hogwarts he learns to play Quidditch, receives the invisible cloak and makes friends with Ron Weasley on the Hogwarts Express. He makes friends with Hermione Granger after he saves her life from a troll.

I recommend this book to children ages 10 and above. I also recommend this book to children that like to read about magic and fictional characters. Children that love to read books that are continued in different books will love this book and all the rest of it’s series!

Matilda

Matilda

The book “Matilda” is written by Roald Dahl and it is about a little girl named Matilda. Her parents and her brother despise her in every way. Her parents were too busy for her but they had so much time for her brother. She was born clever and by the age of 3 she could read chapter books for both children and adults. When she was 5, she had finished all the children’s book in the children’s section. While Matilda was at school she made friends with a girl named Lavender. Matilda’s teacher was Miss Honey. Miss Honey said that Matilda was the smartest in the class and insisted on bringing her to a higher class. Her school’s principal was named Miss Trunchbull, she was mean and very plump. Miss Trunchbull would throw children like a ball if they were naughty but sometimes she would place them in the Chokey. The Chokey has spikes on the doors and belts so that you are tied to the place and you can’t move. Matilda was not an ordinary person. She had powers. She could move things by using her eyes and concentrating on the object. Matilda’s parents wanted to move but Miss Honey really wanted Matilda to stay so Miss Honey adopted Matilda.

My favourite character in this book was Matilda. I like her because she is very smart and she has amazing powers that no human has. She is an extraordinary child especially because she could read at the age of 3. Though she is a child that isn’t cared for or loved, she didn’t give up and she didn’t complain about it.

I recommend this book to children that like to read about a main character having powers and a character that is so smart. The ages I would recommend this book is to 9 and above. I think they will enjoy this book.

James and The Giant Peach

James and the Giant Peach

James and the Giant peach is about a boy named James. He used to live in a nice house by the sea. He had everything a kid would want to have. The sand, the sea and the different children to play with but when both his parents leave to go to London to do some shopping, they are eaten up by a loose rhino from the London Zoo. He was left alone as an orphan and was taken care of by his 2 Aunts. His Aunt’s names are Aunt Spike and Aunt Sponge.  They don’t like James and let him do all the chores, letting him suffer. Aunt Spike is slim and Aunt Sponge is very round and plump. Outside, they have a tree that doesn’t bear fruit. But one day, James notices something different about the tree. Something was growing! He went closer to have a closer look and to his big surprise a peach was growing though Aunt Spike and Aunt Sponge claimed to have found it. Days passed and the peach grew bigger and bigger until it was too big to hang onto the tree. James finds insects and follows them. When James follows them, makes friends with them, they set off on their unexpected adventure in the giant peach. As they leave Aunt Sponge and Spike’s house, both Aunts are squashed and flattened by the peach. Since then, James’ life changed.

My favourite character in the book is James. He is obedient and loyal even though he doesn’t like to do the hard chores such as chopping firewood. His Aunts treat him badly and he still doesn’t complain and he doesn’t lose his temper.

I recommend this book to children ages 8 and above. Roald Dahl is a great author for different ages and I think children that love adventure and Roald Dahl, they would be head over heels with this book.

Puppy Love Report

Puppy Love

What is the bond between humans and dogs? A Japanese scientist named Miho Nagasawa has just about the answer. His answer was to do something with the “Cuddle Chemical” The scientific name of the so called ‘Cuddle Chemical’ is Oxytocin. Oxytocin is a matter in the blood that motivates bonding within the person and animal.

Oxytocin can increase. For example, when a human looks deeply into the eyes of a dog, the oxytocin or cuddle chemical increases or if a mother feeds her baby, the oxytocin increases.

Miho Nagasawa wanted to understand better about the cuddle chemical and conducted an experiment. At the beginning of the experiment, the scientists tested the levels of oxytocin before both human and dog interacted. In a room a human and a dog were there all by themselves. They were alone in the room because they had to interact with each other so that the scientists could test the levels of Oxytocin once they interact. What did they do in the room? Well, they had to interact with each other so the human talked to the dog, petted the dog and looked into the dog’s eyes. This increased the Oxytocin between them. They interacted because the scientists outside the room, recorded the levels of cuddle chemical between them.

Researchers found out that the levels of oxytocin between them were higher when they interacted with each other than when they didn’t. However, the test results were higher when the human looked at the dog’s eyes than when they conversed and petted. This is what one of the investigators wrote, “The duration of the dog to owner gaze…. significantly explained the oxytocin change ratio,” Miho Nagasawa conducted the same test between humans and wolves, but this did not give the same results as the test with dogs.

Have you ever wondered why dogs are so friendly to humans and are usually called man’s best friend? Everything started about 10,000 years ago. Scientists believe that wolves usually followed humans when they were hunting large and big animals such as the mammoth which is extinct. The wolves would eat the leftover scraps of the dead animal. Humans realised that they could use some help from the wolves to hunt down big animals. Later on, both humans and wolves worked together. Some time after, the interaction with humans and wolves began to change. The wolves were more loyal than they used to be and they started to depend on each other more often. That is when they started to make that bond. The changes that the wolves made changed them into what we know as dogs. According to Miho’s study, the bond was formed with some help from a hormone.

Bambi Book Review

Bambi

The book Bambi written by Felix Salten is about a little deer that goes through many things in his young ages. Tragic moments happen such as his mother dying after an attack from He (human). He then had to learn how to survive without his mother along side him. Throughout the time his mother is gone, he meets new animals and makes new friends. At the end, he finally achieved all he could and is crowned with his great antlers King.

My favourite part of this book is when Bambi achieves all. I like this part though it is the ending because this is when you get to smile and be happy that it’s a happy ending and there is no more tragic. I not only have a favourite part but a favourite character. My favourite character in this book is Bambi. He is strong and brave even when he faces so many hardships he finally moves on, meets the old stag and achieves taking on the job his father took. His job of being Head of the Forest.

I recommend this book to children ages 8 and over. I also recommend this book to children that like to read books that feel very touching, heartwarming and that have a happy ending! My rating for this book is 5 stars.

Mythical Lost City Discovered in Honduras

Mythical Lost City Discovered in Honduras

In 1928 a man named Charles Lindbergh reported seeing a metropolis while he flew over Central America. Another man named W.D Strong claimed to have found the ‘lost city’. He then created an expedition about it.

When Theodore Monde found the lost city, he brought back ancient artifacts from the city which he called ‘City of the Monkey God’. He found this city in ruins in a jungle in Honduras. But he died before he located the exact place where the Lost City was.

Screenshot 2015-04-30 at 12.19.44 PM.pngThe main hurdle for the researchers was that they had to re-locate this mythical city because Theodore had died before he could discover the exact location of the Lost City.
Bill Benenson and Steve Elkins overcame this because they formed a group of different experts to help out in the discovery. The group included archeologists from the U.S. and Honduras, an anthropologist, a LiDAR engineer and even British soldiers that were taught jungle survival skills.

Some of the things that the group found were 52 artifacts that were buried underground. The head of the group, Chris Fisher found a statue that was believed to be a head of a were-jaguar.

Oscar Neil Cruz was an archeologist from the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History. They made a rough estimation that the artifacts were from the year A.D 1000 to 1400. What they found led them to find a city that wasn’t isolated but there was a whole place filled with different cities. Long before there used to be a whole civilization living in the White City. Scientists still do not know who the ancient people were.
The place where they discovered the ancient city is kept secret because scientists are afraid that when the city is known to everyone, looters would come and destroy the very precious artifacts that belonged to the ancient people. Scientists are afraid of this because these artifacts have not been disturbed for over a century and they want it to be that way. The scientists are also afraid of Cattle Ranchers because deforestation could be caused by them especially because they are within 12 miles of the ancient city.

Q 1. Why did reearchers carry on Theodore Monde's discovery?
Q 2. When did W.D Strong make an expedition about the Lost City?
Q 3. How did the ancient artifacts help them in their researcher?
Q 4. Why did scientists keep the Lost City secret?
Q 5. Where did they find they find the Lost City?
Q 6. Who claimed to have found the Lost City
