Cats
Cats are classified as mammals because they produce milk and they don’t lay eggs. They are all carnivores which means they eat meat. The feline family is the family that all cats are part of.
Cats have blunt faces not pointy like dogs! They are different sizes and they sometimes have striped or spotted fur. They have sharp, needle claws and powerful teeth.
Cats behave differently. Some are fierce, some are friendly and some are both! They hunt brilliantly. Their sharp,needle-like claws help them kill their prey. They also use their powerful teeth. Cats have retractable claws. Once they find their prey, they silently stalk it’s prey and then they pounce on it. Their claws aren't only for hunting but they also use their claws for defense. The cool thing about cats is that they can stick their fur out to make them look big. Have you ever wondered why your cat scratches the furniture? They scratch the furniture because they are sharpening their claws. They also scratch their claws on things because they are marking their territory with scent. Cats can be very friendly especially when they are tamed.
Cats were first domesticated in Egypt. Egyptians domesticated the African wild cats. The Egyptians domesticated cats because rats and mice would sneak in and contaminate or spoil the food that they have stored. About 4000 years ago cats became pets. People also bred some cats that were the same and some that were different. If the female cats(queens) are different from the male cats(tom) and they breed, their kittens could be different colours.
Cats are very helpful because they catch mice for human beings.
